- Liturgy of the Catechumens
The Liturgy of:
• The Liturgy of the Catechumens.(Doctrinal Liturgy)
• The Liturgy of the Believers.
1- Wearing the service vestments:
The prist blesses his vestment and the vestments of the deacons. The is done 3 times with the sign of the cross. Then the priest and the deacons start wearing their white vestments which symbolize purity of their heart and life.
During this process, they pray psalm 29 "I will praise You, O'Lord........" and Psalm 92 "The Lord reigns, e is clothes with majesty.........."
2- Canonical prayers of the Hours:
+Each Sunday throughtout the year ---> Third and Sixth Hour prayers are said.
+ If we are fasting in any week day ---> Third, Sixth and Ninth hour prayers are said.
+ During the Grat Lent, Jonah's fast ---> from the Third to the Twelfth hour prayers are said.
3-The offertory: Choosing the "Lamb":
During the offertory, the congregation chants "Lord have mercy" 41 times until the priest choose the Lamb.
Then the priest baptizes the Lamb with some water, which symbolizes the baptism of Crist.
While doing so, the prist recites the name of those whom he wishes to mention (sick or people in distress or even departed persons).
4- The procession of the Lamb:
The priest holds the Lamb, wraapped in the silk corporal above his head with the cross while standing at the royal door facing westward and says: "Glory and honor, honor and glory to the Holy Trinity....."
- The procession of the Lamb gose around the alter only once, at the end of the round the priest stands at the left side of the alter unwraps the oblation and moves the wine decanter near it and prays loudly while signing the cross three times over the bread and wine.
Then the priest starts the thanksgivings prayer.
The priest then covers the paten and the chalice which symbolizes the shrouding of our Lord Jesus Christ after his death on the cross.
- The priest then holds the 'Prosfarine' (large Alter veil) with the deacon on the opposite side of the Alter, and together they cover the holy mysteries. The 'prosfarine' represents the stone which was rolles against the entrance of the tomb. Then the priest puts a small triangular shaped veil on the top of the prosfarine which represents the seal on the tomb's door.
Then the priest goes out of the sanctuary with the deacons to pray the Absolution of Ministers.
